"12 Years A Slave" Sweeps Spirit Awards

(Santa Monica, CA) -- The historical drama "12 Years A Slave" locked up five key awards at the Independent Spirit Awards Saturday. Ahead of Sunday's Oscars where it's up for nine awards, the film was named Best Feature and Steve McQueen named Best Director at the Santa Monica event. Star Lupita Nyong'o picked yet another honor for Best Supporting Actress. "Dallas Buyers Club" was the only other film with multiple wins - for Best Lead Actor Matthew McConaughey and Supporting Actor Jared Leto. The Spirit Awards honor films made for budgets less than 20-million dollars.
