(Los Angeles, CA) -- Rihanna may only be 25-years-old, but she's already considered a music icon. At Sunday's American Music Awards, the "Diamonds" singer was given the AMAs' first ever Icon Award. After an introduction by television host Bill Maher, Rihanna's mother, Monica Fenty, took the stage to present her daughter with her trophy. Rihanna's mom pointed out that her daughter's rise to fame wasn't always easy, but that she has overcome every obstacle in front of her to become one of the music industry's premiere artists. In addition to the Icon Award, Rihanna also took home the trophy for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist, beating out Ciara and Alicia Keys.
