Congressman Tries To Get Name On Ballot
(Detroit, MI) -- U.S. Congressman John Conyers continues to fight to get his name on the August 5th ballot. Campaigners for Conyers, who has served in DC for nearly 50 years, may have failed to get enough valid signatures for his name to appear on the ballot. Of the nearly two-thousand signatures collected, 800 were disqualified by the Wayne County Clerk's office. An additional 300 were collected by people who are not registered voters. Conyers' officials are reviewing the petitions to determine whether any of the disqualified names can be reinstated. Without enough valid signatures, Conyers may have to run as a write-in candidate.
