DPS Enrollment Is Up

(Detroit, MI) -- After decades of declining enrollment, Detroit Public Schools have seen a surge in students this fall. According to officials, the school district has seen a boost of 14-percent this school year in grades nine through 12. That's roughly 18-hundred more students than last fall. The increase reportedly occurred in nine of the district's 19 high schools, with much of the influx happening at two of the three general-admission or neighborhood schools. Authorities say the increase is a positive in a city where more than 60-percent of children attend charter schools or suburban high schools.
