Dearborn Heights Doctor Convicted Of Unlawfully Prescribing Millions Of Pills

(Detroit, MI) -- A Dearborn Heights doctor accused of writing more prescriptions than any other doctor in the state is guilty of unlawfully prescribing over three-point-seven-million doses of medications including oxycodone and Vicodin. Yesterday, 36-year-old Basil Qandil was convicted in federal court of all 34 counts he faced following his arrest last January. Authorities say Qandil wrote up to 140 prescriptions in one day and was second in the state only to the University of Michigan in prescribing medications. According to officials, Qandil earned more than one-point-five-million dollars in the scheme.
