Man Who Tried To Stuff Girlfriend Into Bag To Be Sentenced
(Mount Clemens, MI) -- A man accused of trying to stuff his girlfriend into a Christmas tree bag after breaking into her Chesterfield Township home is scheduled to be sentenced today. Jonathan Elbers has been charged with assault with intent to murder, home invasion and unlawful imprisonment charges in connection with the April 2013 incident. He's pleaded no contest to the charges. According to authorities, the couple had broken up after dating for more than a year and Elbers became upset when the woman's new boyfriend called her. He reportedly threatened to kill her and choked her until she passed out before stuffing her in the tree bag. Elbers led police on a three-day search before they were able to locate him hiding in a deer blind.
