Power Outage Could Cost DPS On Count Day

(Detroit, MI) -- Detroit Public Schools officials say they are concerned that a power outage which led to dozens of closures yesterday could affect count day. Today is one of two days in the academic year that districts throughout Michigan report student attendance to receive state aid. Yesterday, 29 schools in Detroit were closed because of the outage. The Michigan Department of Education has told DPS they could petition for an alternate count day if the schools remain closed today.
